Nearness of The Beloved One

Friday, April 09, 2010

Missing someone you love is never easy...

Just a couple of weeks ago, we had to say farewell to a beloved aunt who passed away because of cancer. The doctors had told us that the time was near and the family had to get prepared...

Now, we are still picking up the pieces of our hearts and another heartbreaking news has made its round among the family. One of our uncles has been released from the hospital with a similar condition. He is struggling, but already seems very weak. All we can do is praying for his best.

What can you tell the heart in situations like this? It is not ready to bow toward the mind, which tells you to be patient and able to let go. Besides faith, family and friends... I seek soothing in the beauty of words, like this following poem. Hopefully it touches your heart, too.

Nearness of the Beloved One

I think of you,
when I see the sun’s shimmer,
gleaming from the sea.
I think of you,
when the moon’s glimmer
is reflected in the springs.

I see you,
when on the distant road
the dust rises.
In deep night
when on the narrow bridge,
the traveler trembles.

I hear you,
when with a dull roar
the wave surges.
In the quiet grove I often go to listen
when all is silent.

I am with you,
however far away you may be,
you are next to me!
The sun is setting,
soon the stars will shine upon me.

If only you were here!

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Nähe des Geliebten (German title)

This indeed has been a hard year on you and your family. But you have come through it well my friend. I know it's hard on you but I look at it this way. You will always have the memories and if it is someones time to go, it is most times, for the best. It's only the physical presences you don't retain actually. Hold on to the memories always, be strong and I send you all the Aloha and Sunshine I can. :) xoxo
