Flower at the Pool
I love flowers...that's for sure, but I'm no good at naming them. Maybe you could tell me? This one here was spotted at a local swimming pool while escorting my daughter to a swimming competition last Saturday.

- Mariamellie just mentioned in the comment section that this flower is a Canna species.
- Reading Sara Chapman's comment, there is another possibility as a Bromeliad species. Could it be a cultivar of both? I think it's a good point for paying attention to the leaves. I'll try to do that next time.
- Marie-Louise said that it is a Heliconia psittacorum and when you google this name there are indeed a lot of images resembling this one here. Interesting! What do you think?

This is lovely. I reminds me of a paradise flower, but it's probably something else. We have nothing like it here in New Jersey.

ReplyDeleteHello Mba Rosidah, nice to meet you in Today's Flowers. We also have the same flowers in Mama's garden, and if I am not mistaken, this one belongs to Canna family. We have the yellow and the red one, but since they are new in our garden, we are still 'expecting' the new-born baby flower, and the red one is on the way. I'll show it in next Today's Flowers. Look like paradise flower
ReplyDeleteOr it might be a bromeliad flower, as there are so many kinds. When trying to identify a flower, it's very helpful to see the plant and leaves also. Lucky you to have such beautiful ones nearby!

That definitely is the Heliconia psittacorum, there's quiet a few hybrid of the heliconia. We have plenty of that here in Singapore.
