Out of Camera

White and Yellow Flower

I'm temporary out of camera. Both of my camera memory cards got damaged. I was taking some photos at our yard in the morning, and was having a great time when I moved to a spot near our fence that was under construction... Then puff, the KYOCERA's memory card was suddenly unreadable. So, I took the SE mobile out of my pocket and puff... the same error occurred! What do you think had happened? I often take photos at that particular spot and there were no problems at all. There were even no signs of trouble at other spots before the incident. It's a little bit odd to me that both of the cameras were effected in the same way.

Anyway, it's good that I still can go through my photo archives to look for some photos to share. This flower was taken on the same stroll, when I took a closer look on the red hybiscus. I would appreciate, if someone could tell me the name. Have a great week, everyone.

  1. I am sorry about both of your memory cards damaged. Maybe it is time to get new one. It is hard to live without camera, am I right? :)

  2. Ha! that's awful Rosidah. It happened to me too with my Nikon camera and I was really really desperate to have it working again coz I love that one, the features especially. I'm not really sure what could go wrong, cameras are really sensitive. I do hope to find out why too. :(

BTW, am not sure too what this flower is called. Looks familiar though. :)

  4. Oh dear Rosi, so sorry to hear about it. Can you get the cards repaired..?? I hope they'll get ok soon, and surely you can get back with your camera again. Good that you still can go through your archives. About the flowers, I have the same too, the white and the fuchsia ones, but I don't know the name, I'll ask mama maybe she knows. Have a great week! =)

  5. Do both memory cards fail in the same camera? And if you have a memory card reader, are they unreadable there too? Both memory cards failing at the same time does seem too coincidental. Perhaps it has to do with static electricity.

There are some photo recovery programs out there that you can use to recover the files on the card at the time of loss, and often you can restore the card to original working condition.

  11. Hi Rosidah,
So sorry about your memory cards. I hope you didn't lose too many photos. Could you have somehow come into contact with something magnetic in the area?
That white flower is a Portulaca, or Moss Rose. I love them, they come in lots of colors, orange, yellow, red. No blue or violet that I've ever seen. They like lots of sun and dry conditions, they are a succulent.

  12. I have the same problem with my digicam. And my pics in my mobile are useless at the moment because I need accessory in transporting photos from there to the computer.

But this flower is nicely taken. The focus is so pronounced for the details to be visible. This must be a ground cover succelent similar to that what we call at home as 'vietnam rose' if you heard such a flower name?

  14. If it's only the memory card's faulty , then it's time to get a new one, Definitely much cheaper to buy a new card than a new camera.

That flower is commonly known as the Japanese Rose, very easy to grow, just need to break off the stem and put it in the pot. The flowers usually bloom in the mornings.

  19. So sorry to hear about your camera problems Rosidah! I hope you will solve the problems - since I know you enjoy photographing! I never leave home without my camera, so I can't imagine how I would survive without it!

But the flower is beautiful! It is great to have an archive! I hope you have a backup of your shots on the computer! I lost a lot of photos some years ago. My computer simply died, and I had no backup. I have learned now! :)

  21. Sorry about the problems with your memory cards. How interesting. Can't help but wonder if there was something magnetic in the area or something like that. Would have been interesting to pull out the cell phone and see if anything happened to it.

    Beautiful shot of the flower.

  23. Fantastic shot! Sorry to hear about your technical problems though. I think Bryan may be onto something with the static electricity thing. Or an electromagnetic field that somehow wasn't properly shielded. If both cards had failed in the same camera, then I'd say there was a problem in the camera itself. But since the two failed independently in two different cameras, I'm thinking there was something about the particular spot you were in that did the dirty deed.

If the memory card(s) aren't physically damaged (which is pretty hard to do believe it or not) you may be able to recover the images with the recovery software that came with them (assuming there was any). SanDisk includes a mini-CD with their utility with every Compact Flash card, but I've never used it (other than for a subject for Thematic Photographic -- today in fact!). If that doesn't work, you may be able to reformat the cards and bring them back to a usable state. You'll lose anything that's on them, but it sounds as though you've pretty well lost it anyway.

  26. I am very sorry about your memory cards, what a strange co-incidence. I do hope you can find someone who can recover your photos. This flower shot you took is gorgeous. Very creative to include all the meme's and thank you so very much for sharing it with Today's Flowers.
