Getting Into Freelance Translation (Again)

We already reached the last month of 2015 and I'm revamping the look of my blog again. Not only for a hopefully refreshing new look but also for more serious purposes. You see, I'm beginning to work as a freelance translator again. Something that I have been kind of neglecting throughout a couple of years, due to several reasons. Though, I really do have a great passion for this profession. Time sure flies... and I don't want to get caught up letting another minute pass by.

Now that I'm back into freelance translations, I realized there are so many things that have changed. You might say that this is one of the positive things in an online world. Everything becomes closer. Even jobs, if you are looking in the right places. Choose platforms that are already known for their legitimacy, and even there you must beware of possible scammers. Take your time to research the companies you are applying to or to find out more about your prospective job provider.

Anyway, back to my blog's new appearance. If you have visited me here from time to time, you might have noticed those new menus on the header bar. Some of them have drop-down menus that will show my portfolio as an Indonesian freelance translator and writer. At least, that is what I have in mind.

I also would like to share some blog posts to learn and discuss more Indonesian literature from time to time. Why? One, because they say it's never enough to try to improve yourself. Sometimes the best way to learn about certain matters is by discussing them. Second, it turns out that nowadays there is something called online presence for translators and writers. That means, showing to others what exactly we are capable of and helping each other out by providing information on literature and translations. So, I thought what else would represent me more than my own personal blog. Since 2009, I already have shown so many colors of myself in this particular place close to my heart.

Life Quote: Say "Now", Not "Later"

A little reminder to myself from one of my elders. To start up the day in a spirited mood.

She simply said say "now", not "later". Cause later may never come. Kind of scary to think about, but it is true. Just how many things that have passed by us each day, because of this so-called "later"?
All opportunities that have been missed, because we think that we can do it later, while someone else was able to make it happen now.

Nevertheless, we are all lucky that later is still in our privilege. But, do we actually know how much time is left for us. That's the kind of scary part I was talking about. No one knows for sure about their future. So we must take it in our hands and make the best of it. That's the upside of this situation. People who realize this matter, live their life to the fullest.

Do it "now", not "later", and be surprised by how many wonderful, positive things we can accomplish by doing so.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Stay positive and productive!

Now, not later, as much as I can.
An oath of selfless service I take
Now, not later, as much as I can.
The decaying world to save.

How to Change Twitter Trending Topics

Hubby has called in sick today, because of a stomachache. And, having nothing to do he was fumbling on his mobile trying to find out about the Twitter trending topics.

That's how we found out that Twitter now is providing tailored trending topics according to everyone's own preference, like who you follow and location. So, not like before my trending topics differ from the ones on my daughter's and husband's list.

Well, how do you change those personal tailored trending topics into trending topics on specific locations? Unfortunately, you can't change this trending on your mobile phone. But, you can arrange your settings in desktop mode.

Under your profile picture on home page in desktop mode, find Trends Change like shown by the red arrow in the image below.

This will lead you to a window display saying Trends tailored just for you

When you choose Change it will give you several options to pick a new location.

Okay, Done.

Finding Your Inner Peace In A Frantic World

It's almost year-end and I just realized how lonely it has been on my blog for almost 12 months. It has been too quiet here for sure. To all my loving Blogger friends out there. I'm sorry for not standing by, but it doesn't mean at all that I don't carry you in my heart.

The reason why I'm writing again this time is that I wanted to share something that I learned this year... Something that seems to soothe my heart.

A heart that like others can be sometimes caught up in restless emotions will find its inner peace, once you decided to let go of the past and walk in the future. That's truly easier said than done and needs great effort on our part if the reoccurring images are always coming back to haunt you. Forgetting needs process and can't be done if you keep reminding yourself.

Seek for something you believe in and gives you a strength to stay straight on the ground. Believe that though all of the harshnesses you are going through, there is still more beauty and happiness in your life, if you start to count and realize all the little blessings. Because, we humans, tend to forget all these in front of pain that comes into our hearts.

Finding your inner peace in a frantic world is not easy, but doesn't mean that it can't be done. So, cheer up. Pick up the pieces of your heart and show yourself that you can be happy. Yourself, not others. Because happiness lies within you, not in someone else, and for sure not in the material world.

Let's prepare for a happy 2016, everyone!

Automatically Translate Twitter without Other Applications

Did you know that you don't need any other application to translate your favorite celebrity Tweets on Twitter?

If you are following foreign celebrities on Twitter like me and don't understand their language, you definitely would love to be able to understand their Tweets. So, I was searching the Internet and my mobile phone store the other day to look for good applications that could suit my purpose. But, guess what I found out? Turns out that you don't even need a special application at all to get those translations on any of your gadgets. Because, Twitter has provided us again with bing translations which as far as I knew had been previously cancelled.

So, what do you have to do? Just click the Tweet and you will see a globe icon in the left bottom corner of the Tweet followed by the phrase "View translation". Click it, and you'll be given a rough translation of the sentence provided by bing translation.

Like this Tweet below that informs us about CN Blue's Lee Jong Hyun joining the cast of an upcoming new KBS Korean drama called Orange Marmalade. (He will be starring alongside Yeo Jin Goo, just in case you are a big drama fan like me who wants to know.)

Ease The Pain After Wisdom Teeth Removal

My husband just went through a wisdom teeth removal (odontectomy) yesterday morning, and he was going through a hard time dealing with the pain after the anesthetic effects began to fade away.

Source: http://www.tamworthdentists.co.uk

After almost a whole day struggling to bear the pain, he suddenly began to have cold sweat and feeling dizzy at night, even though he had been taking all the medications given. I panicked when I saw him slumping down the bed, like almost fainting. So, I immediately called my mother who had some medical background as a nurse. She asked, if he had been eating well and I told her that only a little food went down his stomach to consume the medication because he didn't feel like eating with all the pain in his mouth.

It turned out that this was actually the problem. She told me to prepare some sweets like tea, bread, porridge, potatoes or anything else of the kind to increase my husband's blood sugar levels. You may believe it or not, after forcing himself to eat he could actually lift up his body from the bed. The cold sweet and dizziness went away, and his previously pale face got color again. I was so relieved seeing this. So, whatever pain you are feeling after your teeth removal you shouldn't neglect to eat properly. It will regain your strength. Besides, the little movements of the mouth seemed also to loosen up the stiff muscles and nerves around the painful area. Refusing to make any movements at all because of feeling the pain might only add up to it in the long run.

Another tip that I can give you is on the position you are sleeping. Use some pillows or bolsters to heighten up your upper body. It will help your blood to flow down. Sleeping in the usual position might give you more pain because of the blood circulation giving more pressure on the painful teeth area.

Hopefully these little tips can help you to relief some of the pain after the wisdom teeth removal. But in no way are these replacements for real medical consultations. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Simple Frozen Shoulder Exercises & Treatment To Do Yourself

My husband has been going through some great pain at his upper right back and shoulder, which has been said as symptom of a frozen shoulder that among other reasons can also be related to diabetic patients like him. The pain resulting from this symptom has made it stiff and difficult to move the shoulder in a normal way. So, that it has become a very uncomfortable situation and even with taking painkillers and neuralgia medication for almost a month now, nothing has quite worked out well.

He has been told that physical therapy or exercises are actually the main means to overcome the pain and stiffness of a frozen shoulder, whereas medicine is considered as additional help. Since then, he has began some halfheartedly stretching which not unsurprisingly didn't work out as much as hoped.

This made me remember the time, I had been struggling with a bone fracture that caused my leg to be immobile for a half year. During that time, I also began with halfheartedly physiotherapy, but finally came on some self-exercise videos on Youtube that turned out to be a great help in my recovery. From not being able to bend my leg, I know can walk normal again. Of course, this doesn't mean in any way that I encourage you to avoid doctors or medicine. I'm just saying that sometimes these self-exercises can truly be a great help, besides medication.

So, I decided to look for particular simple frozen shoulder exercises and treatment that could be done by my husband himself. It lead me to the following 5 videos series by Gary Crowley that gratefully showed some good results after only one try by him. I am optimist that it might lead to more improvement, if being carried out on a daily routine.

If you are suffering from a frozen shoulder as well, you might want to try these simple frozen shoulder exercises and treatment to do yourself. Here, you can check out the first video of this series. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery.
