Traffic Light Accident: Red Means Stop

Monday, February 08, 2010
Red at a traffic light means stop. I think most adults should know this. But somehow there are people who like to think of it as green and go for it like hell at the last minute. I really wish they would keep in mind that they are not driving alone on the streets. It is a very dangerous activity and can take someone's life.

Yesterday, we experienced something like this. I am so grateful that all of us turned out safe and sound, because it could have been otherwise... We were on the way to the hospital to get my blood test results. I have been going through some laboratory tests this past week to make sure about my liver and kidney. Thank God all results turned out well. The issue lays in my gastroenteritis tract and is not as severe as expected.

We had green light and were passing a cross section before the hospital when suddenly a motorcycle bumped into our car bumper from the left. It was a good thing that my husband wasn't at full speed or things could have become more ugly. The man on the motorcycle managed to get away with only a scratch on his leg. If he had fallen to the other side, he might have ended up under the car and would not have been so lucky.

Thinking about this incident makes me grateful, angry and sad at once. Grateful because everyone turned out fine. Angry because my 9 year old daughter was sitting in front besides my husband who drove. Can you imagine what could have happen, if the motorcycle had hit the spot a few inches further. Not only did this man put himself in danger by ignoring the red traffic light on his side of the section, but he also played with other innocent life. Others might have sued him for all the damage he caused. On our way home from the hospital we saw the man still standing besides his motorcycle, waiting for someone to pick him up. The sight of him made us a little bit sad. Because of his own ignorance, he had put himself in such a situation.

Please, avoid traffic light accidents. Keep in mind that red means stop!

Red means "stop" and orange means "slow down" not "speed up".

First and foremost I'm so glad that you all are okay. What an idiot that guy was. You know my friend driving a city bus I see more of this kind of thing than I like to admit and it usually makes me furious. People are in such a hurry now days. They don't stop to think of what harm they can do not only to themselves but to others.

I'm so glad that your test results came back good and that it's not a serious as one would have thought. That's such good news. How's Mom? I hope she's doing fine as well.

I get such a smile and warm feeling when I see a post from you or a comment. :) Glad you all are aokay.

Much aloha!!!

I'm so glad that you and your family were not injured. One would think that a motorcycle driver would be more careful! It is so dangerous to be on a motorcycle. I'm glad your tests came out better than expected and hope you'll be feeling better soon!

I was in an accident last dec 2, and the guy going east run a red light when I was going south on a green light. Luckily I was ok except that my car sustained a great damage.

I'm glad you're all okay -- and I'm glad your health is okay too. Amen to wishing people would obey red lights and other traffic laws, but people drive crazy here too, and everywhere.I hope your daughter wasn't too scared?

That's too darned scary!! I keep asking myself why on earth do people think that that one second in time going through a red light [or yellow for that matter] will save anything? Time? Not really...just look what happened to you. I'm sure glad to hear that you're all alright tho. It's too darned scary!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING MY BIRTHDAY SO VERY SPECIAL WITH YOUR WARM, LOVING BIRTHDAY WISHES!!! You made my day.

Hi Rosidah,
It was good to see your name in my comments. :)
I'm so glad you are ok. Some people ignore all kinds of traffic rules and not just red lights. I know how you feel about feeling sad about seeing the guy standing there. You have a good heart and it's how you would feel about another being; but you are right HE put himself there. I hope while he stood waiting he thought about the circumstances long and hard.
Good news about your test results.
Hugs and Blessings! Prayers too!

I almost saw an accident yesterday, while waiting for a traffic light to turn green for pedestrian to cross, one lady didn't look and dashed across, luckily the car managed to stop in time otherwise another casualty.

Hi Rosidah, In our country--when the green light turns YELLOW (to warn people to begin stopping), people GUN it ---trying to get through before the light turns red. That is what causes alot of accidents here.

Glad everyone is OKAY in your family --and the motorcycle driver also. Scary!!!

Hugs,
Betsy
